Vikings And Culpepper Agree To 10-year Extension

VIKINGS AND CULPEPPER AGREE TO 10-YEAR EXTENSION

Bill Williamson, of the Pioneer Press, reports Minnesota Vikings QB Daunte Culpepper has agreed to a ten-year contract extension with the team. The deal is worth $102 million and includes a $16 million signing bonus.

Culpepper was entering the final year of his contract with the team and would have been eligible for free agency at the end of the 2003 season.

It's an NFL deal. He'll never see the end of it. That 10 years stretches out the signing bonus.

Happens with every team. Think Gannon'll be QB'ing the Raiders in 2009? He's scheduled to make $11.5 million to do just that under his current deal.

Other 2009 Raiders: LT Barry Sims, newly re-signed RG Mo Collins and the backfield of Wheatley and Crockett. Mo'll be 32 or so (he's 26 now) and he's the only one of them who has even a prayer of still playing then, unless someone pulls a Jerry Rice.

All this, of course, has nothing to do with the wisdom of Minnesota's committing to Daunte Culpepper for the foreseeable future. But this is a team that can't even get the draft right, after all. (Tough process: "Write name on card at team table. Take card to NFL table at front of room. Come back. Smile for ESPN.")

This is blood for blood and by the gallons. These are the old days man, the bad days, the all-or-nothing days. They're back! There's no choices left. And I'm ready for war.

These contracts are ego boosts for the players! It's like watching that "My Crib" crap on MTV. Restructured? Yes very shortly. It is good to see a team make a long term commitment to a player. Can he fulfill the length of this contract? Nope, look at him.

Not only is the cotract outragous....

Have you seen that bufoon play the last 2 years? Culpepper is an INT, Fumbling machine. 23 INT, 10 lost Fumbles, not to mention the 20 the Vikes recovered. Culpepper had one good year and 2 below average years. I could not believe that the Vikes didn't go after another QB let alone sign Culpepper to what they did. Watch him in preseason and you'll see what I'm talking about.
