Very true, but he did make Kitna, McCown, and Culpepper (who would have thrown him the ball in Oakland his first year) look pretty damn good last year. That's undeniable.

Now you're reaching. Sanchez is nowhere near the prospect Russell was. And if Quinn was just as good or better as a prospect he wouldn't have dropped in the draft like he did, trust me. When the Raiders picked Russell there was no serious talk of him being a "reach"; the pick was expected and mostly accepted. And as I mentioned, Mayock said he had the best skill set of any QB he ever saw coming out of college. When you've been playing the "rent a vet at QB" game since the 1970s and a guy like that is there for the taking, you grab him and don't think twice.
How is Sanchez not? The guy shot up draft boards then had someone jump 12 spots for him. There wasn't a huge need at QB when Russell and Quinn were in there, but that's not the reason. Quinn was a damn good prospect, I cannot answer why he fell but I'm sure it's not b/c of his talent.

There was no talking of him being a reach b/c everyone knew they'd take him. If you want to say he's worth the FIRST overall pick of the draft, that's on you. I don't believe he was b/c of all the concerns about him.

Sure Mayock said he was the best. That's fine. If Kiper had said it, everyone would be bringing that up as much crap as they talk about him. For every guy saying he's the best, there's another one saying he's not.

Again, agree to disagree. The franchise QB will always trump the franchise WR if your team has neither. Clearly the Raiders felt Russell was a franchise QB. So did a lot of other people.
You're right, it does. But this is the exception to the rule. Junior QBs RARELY succeed. RARELY. A guy like CJ was as close to bust proof as possible. Russell is still very bust prone. His hold out didn't help him one bit either in any of this.

I'm not arguing that people thought that, nor am I arguing the Raiders needed one. CJ was just the better prospect, that's all.
