Typical, "I like this kid a lot, I think he can help us out..." off-season for Madsen. Here at RF.net, many have mastered the art of proclaiming such words, and attributing traits to those type of players in expectance of great things...
My stance of Madsen has been the same; if the kid can make plays as a RECEIVER and haul in some passes, adding a dynamic presence to our aerial attack -- then he will help. If not, he does not deserve a roster spot. Two years ago, C.Anderson was the rave, and the guy looked at as a solid target, with size, etc.
Madsen is an awful blocker, and cant be relied to stay in varying packages and contribute in many ways. If he's in there, he's in there to run routes, hopefully 'cause match-up problems and give us a target that we can match-up with opposing LBs/S...
He needs to get open, catch balls, run nice routes, provide our QBs a target that can be reliable...
20-40 catches isnt something that is out of the question for him. And with the abundance of targets that have questions marks surrounding them, and the cloudiness of who will play where in terms of our #3, #4 WRs and other TEs...that number I stated isnt something that is crazy. He can do it. If he cant, he is worthless on the roster. And if you are a believer in Miller and his ability to possible grab a lot of balls, then Madsen will be truly expendable in the near future.
