"You can't Appoint, Hire, or Declare Leadership" ~ Sonny Barger
"Al Davis thought all owners were dilettantes with a new toy. He said to me many times through the years that owners are often the problem with their franchises, that too many of them think they can run things when they cannot, and the teams that succeed are the ones where the owner hires the best people he can and turns the game over to them."
without reading anything id bet pretty hard lol
Then it would become expected, no way Al will do that. If he denies this, then everyone will expect him to come out on every other topic in the future and if he doesnt then it will be assumed it is true. Al has set the precedent of not denying or confirming rumors, it won't be different this time. And like what has been posted, he loves the attention. No such thing as bad publicity...ya know. Yeah right..
And everybody who believes this please stand on your head. This isn't happening; never has, never will. Reality.
I think it's funny people want these guys to come out and either support or deny rumors but when they have done that in the past people just say they are lying anyway so whats the point. People are going to believe what they want to believe and even if God himself came down and said Kiffin is staying people would say God is lying. Some folks just want the bad...

the rumors and negativity could impact this team one month from now when free agency starts...
Lofton just part of the story
From Chronicle beat writer David White:
The Raiders have agreed to hire Hall of Fame receiver James Lofton as an assistant coach, though the deal is still being finalized.
What no one can agree on is how the team came to that agreement.
According to a league source, and reported this morning by a local media outlet, Raiders owner Al Davis made the decision to hire Lofton on Wednesday without informing coach Lane Kiffin. This has all the makings of yet another move to undermine Kiffin in their increasingly public power struggle, with Kiffin doing all the struggling.
The Raiders, however, said that couldn't be further from the truth. According to senior executive John Herrera, Kiffin decided to hire Lofton after interviewing him Monday and then passed the salary part of the process to Davis, who is currently negotiating the deal with Lofton.
"Lane vehemently denied that he didn't know about it," said Herrera, who spoke with Kiffin about the news report Thursday morning. "He did know about it. He was part of the interview process and he was totally in the loop. He told Mr. Davis to go ahead and get him on board. He turned it over to the organization to see if the organization could come to an agreement, which every organization does in regards to salary."
This much is clear: the national perception is Oakland has been, and remains, a devastating wreck. From stories about Kiffin's failed attempt to fire defensive coordinator Rob Ryan to Davis stripping Kiffin of power in a recent letter, the Raiders make it easy to understand why, at 19-61, they have been the worst NFL team of the past half-decade.
Be sure, perception counts for something. When Randy Moss is bashing the organization during Super Bowl week, and former players like Ray Buchanan do the same on NFL Network, their opinions carry weight with other players. One personnel official conceded this is making it that much tougher for the Raiders to re-sign their own free agents, let alone convince top players to come here from elsewhere when the free agent market opens at the end of February.
Stay tuned.

They both should sit down and talk about this and get it settled. If they cant work it out by talking it over. Al needs to settle up with Kiffin and let him go. The players and fans should be the one that matter here and thats the bottom line. I want Kiffin to be our coach but, that doesnt matter. We keep up with the raiders every day and it still doesnt matter what we think. Nobody or no team is nothing without their fans and its that simple. I say 2 grown men should settle their feud and put the players and fans #1
The problem is Al prefers to try and be mysterious like in the 70s and 80s when we were winning. It is like the big hairy biker with prison tatoos that starts crying when a 5'5" dude punches him in the pie hole. I.E. The biker looks good, but basically becomes a joke. Same with Davis and the Raiders, when you have about 20 years of getting your ass kicked along side you the mystery and intimidation make you look quite the "joke" instead. Perhaps, Uncle Al should figure that out first before he tries to become Austin Powers international man of mystery. Wait, he is already Austin Powers without the mystery..............yay Baibie.
Well said... at the end of the day its our support and money that give them a job in the first place. Its unfortunate that professional athletes/owners/coaches tend to forget how lucky they are and where all their wealth comes from. People get have feuds in the workplace all the time, but as professionals they put their quarrels aside for a common goal. Anyways I hope some resolution can come about soon.
It wouldn't squash any rumors. "Al Davis is a master of smoke and mirrors"
Everyone would think he is just toying with people.
Win, lose, or tie, Raiders till I die!
Davis just leaves us all twisting and toiling in the wind, wondering, fretting, puzzled, frustrated, angry, dejected, if he really and truly cared about the fan base, he would let us know WTF is up.....but, we always show up on game day, season after season, spending our money, while he does whatever.....I can't believe I am speaking of him in this manner, never in 40 years have I ever said a thing bad about him....This is it....I can't take it any longer. I can no longer be a Al Davis supporter.....
JIM OTTO "00"
In the 1960 NFL Draft there was a center that was completely overlooked by every NFL team. 15 centers were selected that year. Jim Otto was not one of them. After 308 consecutive games and 20 years later, Jim Otto becomes the Raiders first hall of famer.
