"The Raiders Will Be Back" -Al Davis
Lennon, Hendrix, Morrison, Cash, Cobain, Staley and now Dime, passed away, yet Justin Timberlake is still making albums.....It's not f#cking fair!!!!!
This is the biggest lie, oft repeated, of all. Look at Al's past. He was maybe good on the field, and certainly brilliant in the board room, in the 60's. With the help of Ron Wolf he made the Raiders competitive later. His trash to treasure signings are more often stupid than successful. He is surrounded by scychophants ("King Al!" and still thinks it is 1965. He has spent more energy suing Oakland, Socal municipalities, and the NFL than he has spent on this team OVER THE LAST TWENTY YEARS. He never goes anywhere without a ready scapegoat.Even if you dont like Al Davis, there is NO ONE that wants the Raiders to win more than Al Davis.
Al doesn't care about winning. The glohry of the Raidahs has to do with coin, and a pathetic old man trying to get over on anyone that doesn't smell his shorts and agree they smell like Old Spice.
Powah, deniability, coin.
I really believe if Al gives more control over to Kiffin, and hires a good GM, this mess will be fixed fast....and Al can sit back and enjoy.....but, Al can't give it up.
JIM OTTO "00"
In the 1960 NFL Draft there was a center that was completely overlooked by every NFL team. 15 centers were selected that year. Jim Otto was not one of them. After 308 consecutive games and 20 years later, Jim Otto becomes the Raiders first hall of famer.
Totally agree.
Mr. Davis wants to win as much or more than any other owner in the NFL.
If anything, that's one of his shortcomings - making decisions he feels will help us win now rather than build for the future.
Are the decisions always right? Nope.
Are they always intended to help the Raiders win? IMHO, without exception.
I wonder how many people would actually meet Mr. Davis in person, have a meaningful conversation about football and survive with such misguided thoughts intact.

Ayso is a .sig genius!!
I have no doubt that Lane and Al butted heads, I have no doubt that Al sent him the resignation letter.
However, I do believe that the story is being blown out of proportion. And trust me on Friday afternoon I too was convinced that Kiffin was toast, I woke up Saturday thinking there was going to be a headline "DAVIS FIRES KIFFIN AFTER ONE SEASON"
But then, Mortensen himself admitted that the letter was sent 3 weeks ago. And now this week Lane is interviewing candidates for the coaching staff. If Lane was done here, why would he be interviewing Lofton and allegedly Saunders? Doesnt add up.
Theres a theory being kicked around that I cannot take credit for, but agree with. Lane tries to fire Rob, Al vetoes him, Lane gets pissed off and tells Al to fire him if he cannot have control over his staff. Al in turn reminds Kiffin that hes yet to actually win in the NFL and hasnt yet warranted the benefit of the doubt. I think Rob Ryan deserved to be fired, but thats a whole other debate.
Al allowed Gruden to fire Willie Shaw, but that was after Gruden had been here for 2 seasons and had the Raiders in Wild Card contention both years. We would have won the west in 99 with a decent kicking game. Lane isnt quite there yet, after all we did go 4-12 this year. I guess what Im trying to say is that Lane hasnt done enough in the NFL just yet to get the type of control that he covets, and given his inexperience that may be a good thing.
But anyway, after Lane tells Al to fire him, Al sends him the letter, basically saying "This is your job description, this is how much authority you have, you dont like it sign on the dotted line"
3 weeks later and Kiffin hasnt signed the letter, not only that but he is now interviewing coaches for the staff. My gut feeling tells me this whole thing has blown over. Kiffin stays, Id place a wager on it.
