Calling all Oregon Raider fans (and others who want to help spread the darkness)....
I don't know if any of you have written to the Portland, Oregon CBS affiliate, KOIN, but I'm thinking that if we all write emails to them about how they need to show Raider games in Portland, then we have a chance at seeing more games on TV here. I'm expecting a new little Raider fan in September so I can't get to bars and I can't swing Sunday Ticket. So my only hope is to bang the monkey.
Let's get the Raiders to Portland!!!
Here's the email address of the programming staff:
koinshows@koin.com
Here's what I wrote to them. You could cut and paste but it may be better to just write your own.
I’m writing you today to encourage KOIN to adopt the Oakland Raiders as a “home” AFC team. I know that Portland is largely Seahawks territory, but with the Seahawks in the NFC and now mostly on FOX, the Raiders are the closest AFC team. Portland has had a steady growth of people who have transplanted from the Bay Area which means that there are a lot of people who enjoy watching the Raiders. Plus, the addition of Randy Moss makes showing Raider games a great programming choice. The Raiders are likely going to be involved in a lot of high scoring shootout type games which are always exciting to watch. All of this means that people in this region are going to enjoy watching Raider football this season. I also remember hearing that the Raiders were the 3rd most popular NFL team in Oregon behind the Seahawks and 49ers in the NFC according to the ESPN sports poll that was done a couple years ago.
I’m sure you realize that I’m a fan of the Raiders and biased, but I really believe that this would be a good programming decision to get your station high ratings. I know if the Raiders play poorly, then it doesn’t make a lot of sense to stay with them, but give it a try. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
Thanks for you time.
I got a reply from KOIN. Here's what they said. Apperently, this needs to be addressed to CBS Sports since they make the call.
Thank you for contacting KOIN News 6 and for your comments. I have forwarded them to our General Manager.
Regarding the choice of NFL games broadcast on KOIN News 6 CBS Sports assigns specific games to KOIN. KOIN can request a game change but it is a difficult process. Research into team rosters & market interest are required by the local affiliates to make a change. CBS Sports requires the game to have local interest in a market. For instance, even though Detroit is a NFC team (CBS only broadcasts AFC games) we could request a Detroit game only if they are playing an AFC team because Joey Harrington, the quarterback, graduated from the University of Oregon.
Feel free to call CBS Sports in New York at 212-975-3247 between the hours of 7a-8:30a & 11a-12:30p Pacific time Monday-Friday. You can also contact CBS through their feedback form on their website at http://cbs.sportsline.com/help/contactus/usersspeak
