I am sure glad we got rid of the yellow.
Some Oakland Raiders history: helmet, name and more.
Origin of the Raiders Name:For a brief period, the new AFL team was known as the Senors but by the time the 1960 season started, the Oakland team was known as the Raiders. The origin of the Raiders name is not known but, since it is doubtful a fan contest would have been staged in Oakland since the first team would have to play in San Francisco, it is most likely the name was chosen by principal owner Chet Soda and his partners.
History of the Raiders helmet:Over the years, the Oakland Raiders logo and helmet design has really only changed once. During the yearly days of the AFL, only the logo has changed colors. From a white backgrounded logo to the now black on black logo. Founding member of the AFL: 1960
Did you know, Al Davis was the AFL's Commissioner as well as a coach. Also, the Raiders were in and lost Super Bowl II vs the Green Bay Packers. To get to that game, the Raiders won the AFL Championship over the Houston Oilers 40-7.
Did you know, the Raiders actually went and lost the next 2 AFL Conference Championship games? Losing to the Jets in 68 and the Chiefs in 69. Basically, the Raiders were 1 step from being in 3 straight Super Bowl's. Most people don't know that. Raider fans do! Just Win baby.
