Nancy Gay, of the San Francisco Chronicle, reports Oakland Raiders QB Kerry Collins was given a planned rest at practice Friday morning, August 5. "We kind of planned this as we started camp," said head coach Norv Turner, who wants to occasionally rest Collins. Collins has been wearing an elastic sleeve on his right knee, but Turner said the morning off was not related to an injury. Collins returned to afternoon practice.

Kevin Tresolini, of the Daily News Journal, reports Oakland Raiders QB Rich Gannon will announce his formal retirement from the NFL Saturday, August 6. Football has been such an important part of my life," said Gannon, who will head to a CBS-TV booth this fall. "I'm so passionate about the game that this is difficult. The neck injury made the decision simple, but it's still bittersweet."

IMO, Francis needs the reps as we already know what Porter can do. Francis needs to distance himself from Morant and attempt to move up the depth chart.

I think as long as the are involved, and gonna be in NE sept 18th... then give the ones we need to cut a chance to make the team, and let these guys sit!
