The Murder Mock

The Murder Mock

Draft time is here, and the mock scenarios are ready.

First and foremost is the race for Eli Manning, which the Giants desperately want as a major market Quarterback to compete with Chad Pernnington and to learn from Kerri COllins until the O line gels , still struggling after letting best runblock T go last year and coming off injuries across the board there.

Ernie Accorsi the Giants player personnel man feels the heat and needs a name to remove the memory of Dayne's bust status. The second generation QB is the Answer, a tall pocket passer with enough mobility to but time, and Accorsi's time is running short if results stay the same as last season.

The trade will involve 6 picks altogether. Rounds 1,2, and 5 this year (picks numbers 4,34,and 136 overall this year). Plus picks from round 1 and 3 next year, and conditionals the year after that.
1- Thus Eli gets big dollar contract at a big market where his endorsement deals can double. last time a country boy was this hyped in the Big Apple- Broadway Joe.

2- Thus the Raiders have the chance to secure Robert Gallry at second overall, the last time a player was wanted by Owner Al Davis, it was Orlando Pace. Gallery has that kind of upside and no downside as well. Pulling the trigger is no question if he's there.

3- Next comes the Cardinals third overall, and Larry Fitzgerald is the player Dennis Greene will add to his young team. A big time talent with speed and toughness, he'll fit in well with the passing style his new head coach can employ. He is young and the skill players for his team on offense match this trait.Make sure the scoreboard is plugged in it will be lit up.

4- The Jags move up to replace the pass rush of the long departed Hugh Douglas sending a first and third rounder and veteran strong safety Donovan Darius to a Chargers team needing vet leadership for a young secondary since Rodney Harrison departed to the champion Patriots.Their pick is the USC pass rush gem Udeze Kenechi to make Del Rio's D a big play factor.
The Redskins will trade down in this next , accepting a three way deal that lands them speedy smurfster Dennis Northcutt, the 20th overall pick from the Dolphins, the dog pound's seventh rounder (208 overall), the Phins' seventh(219),fourth (119) and the Browns second (37 overall) and third (87). Their top players are Gallery and Udeze and minus these two they'll trade down and still add value since their depth is lacking. Thus a team with one first day pick (Washington) gets three for moving down- quantity over quality, as Gibbs' staff believes they can mold players into great ones. They also move up a round day two, and add two more late picks in addition to a support speedster to balance Laverneous Coles' big threat ability and a Phins' conditional in a year.

7- The Phins move up and get the best runblock tackle this year, Sean Andrews of Arkansas, seventh overall. He can block the spread and multiset attacks Offensive coordinator Marc Trestman will add to compliment Ricky William's edge running on Offense as he did in college.Tim Couch is part of the deal as well, clearing Browns cap space, taking a cut to compete with a competitive Phins team in a change of scenery. The Browns will move Miami's fourth rounder up in return for sending that one to the Skins who plan an offensive overhaul. Finally the Browns and Skins get conitionals as a result of the Couch transfer next year, a 2 going to the Browns then also and the Skins, Phins swapping middle rounds to compensate Cleveland. Trung Candidate also goes to the Browns in exchange for William Green going the Skins as a pass down back with the conditional attachments. Gibbs can make the value of a runner emerge, and green is patient for setting up the blocks that their line coach Joe Bugel adheres to.

A 2 year three team trade with a lot of cap money adjustments for each team and skill players and draft picks still being in play as well.

Miami moves up in the first second day pick, adds another late selection as well, and gets a system QB to come in for the new system and compete with their current starter whose style fits the short-pass west coast offense the new Offensive coordinator employs.

5- Finally Cleveland ends the Couch era, after being booed by fans and taking up the cap. They add an Ohio valley phenom who is big and strong and can even run , to learn from their new arrival Jeff Garcia. to clear the cap space they unload players at odds with fans, the front office, or other players and add a specialty back who did not fit the team he was on last year. A new verical era will arrive for Butch Davis the rock n' roll coach. The rules changes will be the focus of the pass game there.
6- Sandwhiched between these trade picks are the Detroit Lions, who need a leader in their defensive backfeild and find one in Sean Taylor to join their high dollar free agents to play fast football indoors.

And that's just up the pick seven! 8- The number seven in Atlanta has a new season ahead and his team has the eight overall pick. Kellen Winslow is appealing as a downfield catch threat to add to Crumpler's runblock power but with veteran defensive backs departed and their playing in the tough NFC south the new blood at Cornerback is needed. Virginia Tech 'sDeangelo Hall adds punt return ability also in this role as a shutdown corner needed for their fast surface team.

9- Then the Chargers, who have traded won their pick , still get the man Marty wants from the Jags ninth selection. Philip Rivers of NC State will sell tickets that the front office aims for, and the trade downs give Marty picks for depth he needs at power positions and the depleted wideout spots.

10- Rounding out the top ten list are the Houston Texans, and they will take Vince Wilfork at defensive tackle the biggest pass rush tackle in the draft.Defensive interior play from their team was of the finesse variety last season. Power play is what Dom Capers needs to let his promising second level find their groove.

11- Next comes the Pittsburgh Steelers, who after trying to move up settle for their spot and get the Ohio State DE Smith who is solid vs. the run and can share some 3-4 linebacker reps.He fills out thier D line nicely already having an all pro caliber nose tackles and platoon rotation weakside.

12- The New York jets then recieve a surprise as well, Jonathan Vilma is there to add quickness to an aging linebacker corps.

13- The Bills are next, and add Tommie Harris at DT to complement Sam Adams interior play and provide them a solid every down player in his stead as a runstopper.

14- The Chicago Bears are then surprised to find their great tradition of passcatch Tight End (Ditka, Moorehead) met by a pass catch specialist in Kellen Winslow. Originally posted as a top 5 player in most boards, the Skins decision to add depth overtakes this.

15-Tampa. After losing Keyshaun's size at wideout they find size and speed in Roy Williams of Texas whose attitude is the kind that makes gruden challenge him to produce. The fit is perfect for the situation.

16-San Francisco. The need is at wide reciever, gruden blocks their pick, so they trade down since other wideouts are deep in number at this time. The New England patriots move up from 21st overall , adding to that pick the second (63rd overall) and 5th (164) so the niners get numbers. Why two picks for one? because start quality linemen for offense are thin, and Vernon Carey of Miami plays 2 positions at start quality levels. This moves ahead of the spot the Skins thought he would go past, and blocks the Saints, Vikings, and Broncs from adding his size and versatility to their lines. Bellichek will get ahead of the midround power barons and get his valued player.

17-Broncos- Shannahan needs depth and speed at linebacker and drafts to his strengths. DJ Williams of Miami leverages their free agent speedsters at the second level, and is fast enough to play special teams and nickleback coverage linebacker. pass interference rules are changing soemwhat and the conrers needs underneath help or fast blitzer to stymie devloping pass riutes, he fits the bill. You can't go wrong when you draft speed. His other choice here would be the LSU end/tackle from a championship front seven who mimics the ability of Trevor Pryce as a 2 position potential all pro.Marquise Hill is that good.

18-The Saints defensive secondary needs speed and toughness and South Carolin corner Dunta Robinson answers the resume. Dr. Z 's pick makes sense here.

19-The Vikings are next, and take surprise players. Jason Babin is a 6-2 260 lineman who can play linebacker some and is Brandt's number 3 end prospect. Playing on fast surfaces the 30 sack man should wreak havoc and learn the finer points of Linebacker play from greg Biekert, rotating in with Hovan at tackle or spelling Johnstone at end.

20-Washington's trade down secures them solid corner play from ohio State's Chris Gamble. Gamble-ing is the rage in DC, just ask the Ravens.

21- New England (to San Francisco) Reggie Williams from Washington at WR, the man they wanted slides down.

22- Dallas- Unable to move up for Andrews, beat to the pick for Carey, Parcells trades his pick for vet star Ty Law and the pat's third rounder(95 overall) to add first day value and complement their other shutdown corner.

New England trades with the Ravens once more (a Dr. Z pick folks) and gets a scare when the Dallas deal threatens their pick at power RB of Steven jackson the Oregon State runner who Parcells may cover but will pass, staying with defense and getting midround line bulk and depth with trades.

23- Seahawks need CB depth. Derrick Strait the OK corner fits the bill, no more panhandling sharpie show offs will show up in Seatown.

24- Unable to move up Marv Lewis adds value galore in Marcus Tubbs the Texas DT who is 321 when he drinks light beer. The Big Nasty will anchor the run game that their North rivals plan to feature.

25-Green Bay goes with the Z plan and picks Florida Tight End Ben Troupe, a blocker to complement Franks power style, a big target who can get downfield and the run game upgrade their combined blocking provides lets Ahman Green's one back set control the ball and adds new level to his game.
Packers D needs help but the added ball control of this player will keep teams focused on the run and relieve favre of punishment.

26- The St.Lois Rams have a ton of depth, wanted to trade Warner for value also but missed the chance. Their number one need is end, but another monster interior tackle Ahmad Childress of Alabama will make their one gap scheme work for Lovie Smith's style and force teams into pass sets. Martz plans to keep up with any fastpaced team , so taking away their counterbalance ball control the South teams feature is a key.

27-Tennessee Titans choose a tight end as well, Keith Willis is a late bloomer rom Virginia Tech at 6-5 264 is a big target to ease the Wycheck departure and secure the edge for any runner by committee the team appears to use to complement Stevie Mc and his chance at comeback.

28-Philadelphia Eagles select a surprise, Michael Turner the Northern Illinois RB from McNabb's hometown. He has shown promise as a pass catcher, is 5-10 237 and was an I back. Ritchie will lead , and as he gains patience and emerges as a pass target the team's offense will match expectations across the board.
This player gives them a true 'I back' to play-pass feature when they face the NFC bad weather venues late.

29-The Indianapolis Colts trade down to Detroit(36th overall pick) and get their third (73) to select LSU wide reciever Chambers. The Colts desired pick is from division II and should be ther early 2. The Lions add another big chain mover to complement Hakim and Rodgers. The Colts add value in round 3 for first day starter/contributor.

30-Chiefs need defense help still. Michael Boulware is a name player who should pan out- no head case. Edge pass rush skill, and capable at any linebacker spot. At 6-2 233 he can maul and the Chiefs need people with that kind of reputation.

31-Carolina Panthers have a wr on the Z boards. As much contact as Fox had with the press it's safe to say Z is on the money. Anyone who beats them to this secures other people he'll want. Line value if a player slips, on either of the ball, is possible here as a switch with any players mentioned already and teams with those needs.

32- New England Patriots. The law lost this offseason , Tuna wants another shutdown corner. The trade makes this spot a depth concern, Razorback Ahmad Carrol at 4.2 meets the profile as a turn and run type with hands. The Panthers may add this value as well thier profile matches a turn and run type with recovery speed. The rules are changing so pass heavy sets will be featured more.
