If Sam turns out to be a good rush end, or OLB in Mangini's 3-4, we'll be glad we got the guy. He's got a size/speed combo that's hard to come by. He just got nailed by that bastard injury bug that took out half our team this year.

I was saying this the day we made the trade
Y0u can look it up in the 2003 draft files. I did not like it then and I like it a lot less now.
What I don't understand was why didn't we make the pick conditional? Houston gets the worse pick of ours or TB's, that way we would have the 1st pick of the 2nd round. I know conditional picks are allowed because we got a conditional for trading Kenyon Coleman to Dallas. But maybe Sam Williams is the next coming of Reggie White or at least Greg Townsend. |

I personally still don't see why you would trade a second round pick for a 3rd round pick but that's besides the point. Hopefully Sam Williams turns out to be a very good DE or rush LB in a 3-4 scheme. I don't think we can really pass judgement on the trade yet, since we don't know what Williams can do. Either way, the first pick of the second round, along with Tampa's second round pick would've been very, very nice. |

BUt Management should have accounted fo the risk
Well it was a 3 and a 7 who we in turn cut.
But it would have been easy to put in the risk protection by just saying Houston you take the worst pick of our two #2's for your #3 and #7. Now maybe Houston does not go for that deal but I cannot see them not going for it becuase the choice would have been our pick of TB's - both teams comning off of SB appearances...HOw would they have known which team would have had the bigger fall. In fact if they had known they probably would have kept the pick and not drafted the supplemental player...... |

I didn't like the move then, but I'll give it some time. The guy got hurt, let's see what he can do this year. Hopefully he stays healthy, gets some XP coming off the bench and eventually becomes a starting DE for us. If nothing else, hopefully he can be a situational pass rusher....
Which piques my interest. Don't you guys/gals think it's funny how we have no pass rush to speak of but we seem to have a whole lot of those 'situational pass rushers' on our defense --- T.Smith, D.Grant, S.Williams, S.Pierson, etc. You'd think we'd at least be able to rush the QB....

Cards to try and make trade
When DENNY GREEN was with the vikes, LARRY FITZGELRD was a ball boy, he said that he knows what he can do. DENNY believes that he can make a trade with raiders for the #2 pick.

That would be a dumb pick on AZ's part. They have a ridiculously good WR in Anquan Boldin, a 2nd round pick, and a #1 pick in Bryant Johnson who likely will develop into a good receiver. This must be a smoke screen. They're thinking QB, TE, or defense. No way in hell do they take Fitz, even if given the opportunity. Connection to Green or not, it's a dumb move.
