2004 Mock Draft...Thoughts?
During a Mock Draft I am doing over on another board, I have the Raiders and I want to know what your thoughts are:
The chargers Selected Fitgerald first, so after debate: I chose Eli Manning with the 2nd pick, noone would trade up... I thought about Sean Taylor who is the best CB in the draft, but I figured Gannon is getting up there in age, and I don't thing Marquis Tuiasosopo has what it will take to lead the Raiders. As a surprise I traded: The 45th pick (2nd Round), 67th pick (4th Round), and 195th pick (7th Round) For St. Louis Rams: 26th pick (1st Round)] With that selection I chose Rashaun Woods, WR If I couldn't get Fitgerald, I would go after a great young prospect... So far we are only done with the 1st round and we are doing a full 7 rounds. Let me know your thoughts on the 1st 2 picks, and also what other needs are: I think I am going to go BPA theory for the rest, but I will look at LB (not sure Inside or Outside), RT, DT, and S. If anyone wants to see the board as it panned out for the 1st round let me know and I will post it. |

I think you gave up too much to get into the second round to draft Woods. If he doesn't pan out the trade will look terrible, not just bad. It's a very big risk for a team that has so many holes. I like the player you picked up a lot, but you probably gave up too much.
I would have parted with the 2nd and 5th this year and next years' 6th rounder. Something along those rounds. We, IMHO, can't afford to trade 3 picks for 1.

Oh yeah, Manning was a solid pick, I too like Gallery, but you can't argue with a franchise QB type pick.

The trade to get Woods is a bad one IMO. There's plenty of depth at the WR this year, no need to give up so much for 1 WR. Try to get and oversized DT in the 3rd round or an ILB like Daryl Smith, Rod Davis (he's a bit slow though) or Richard Seigler. Getting a fast young safety should be the way to go in round 5 after that add some depth on the O-line.
Bad move trading those picks though. |

I am surprised...After watching the Raiders this year and reading what all the boards are saying about the Raiders needing a WR, I would have thought you guys would have been happy with getting the top QB in the draft, and getting one of the top 4 WR's in the draft.
My opinion of Woods is that he will be better than both the Williams. Since the Chargers will be taking Manning...Fitzgerald will be a Raider so my trade would never have been made. I would think about trading up from the 45th pick to try and get a DT or a quality ILB. Thanks for the comments and I will let you know who I get in the 3rd round. |

.I personally think that the trade you did is too costly because we have far greater needs than trading 3 picks to get Woods in the late first. We need a big run stopping (preferably oversized) DT and a solid, speedy ILB (Davis, Smith, Seigler) and than there's also a need of an OT and Safety. Try adding some depth to the D-line and O-line in the later rounds (we've got 2 picks in round 7 YAY! Take care man. Last edited by Collins2Porter; 02-04-2004 at 12:48 PM. |
