Liebos Mock Version 3.0
1. San Diego Chargers: Eli Manning QB, OleMiss- The Chargers are looking to take the offensive burden off of LaDainian Tomlinson and open up their passing game with a healthy David Boston. Eli Manning has the genes and the brain to succeed in the NFL. He can read defenses like his brother Peyton, and he can get the ball where he wants. He will take some time to develop but may eventually be better than his brother. Other Option: Larry Fitzgerald WR, Pitt
2. Oakland Raiders: Larry Fitzgerald WR, Pitt- While the Raiders have holes elsewhere, a talent like Fitzgerald is hard to pass up, especially for someone like Al Davis. Fitzgerald uses his size well and can beat double and triple teams. The Raiders do have Jerry Porter, but Tim Brown and Jerry Rice are most likely on their way out. Fitzgerald will give Marques Tuiasosopo a big target to compliment Jerry Porter and will help ease some of Tuiasosopo’s growing pains. While there is depth at wide receiver, this “super soph” is hard to pass on. Other Option: Robert Gallery OT, Iowa 3. Arizona Cardinals: Ben Roethlisberger QB, Miami (Ohio)- The Cardinals are craving for an arm like Roethlisberger’s to guide their offense. Forget the Ryan Leaf comparisons, Ryan Leaf is the real deal. He can read defenses and he makes good decisions. He is mobile and he can throw on the run. Anquan Boldin and Roethlisberger will be an unstoppable tandem for years to come. Other Option- Tommie Harris DT, Oklahoma 4. New York Giants: Shawn Andrews OT/OG, Arkansas- The Giants’s banged up offensive line will not be able to keep the frail Kerry Collins under center if changes are not made. Andrews is the solution. The huge tackle has good footwork and great mobility for someone his size. He can switch to guard in the NFL, and he reminds me of Leonard Davis as a guard. He excels at run blocking and he can protect the quarterback. Robert Gallery of Iowa is another option but he is a left tackle, and they already have an adequate left tackle in Luke Petigout. Other Option- Robert Gallery OT, Iowa 5. Washington Redskins: Kenechi Udeze DE, USC- The Redskins are hurting at defensive line and the athletic Udeze will provide an immediate impact. He gives his all on every play and can rush the passer and stop the run. He has great speed and strength. His stock is on the rise and he will be helped by a good Combine. Other Option- Steven Jackson RB, Oregon State 6. Detroit Lions: Sean Taylor FS, Miami (Florida)- Who better to help the Lions’s young secondary than the physical specimen that is Sean Taylor. He can do it all, stop the run, cover and blitz, and he played in a NFL-style defense. His athleticism is unparalleled and he has great speed. The hard-hitting Taylor will be a mainstay in the Lion’s secondary for a while. Other Option- Kellen Winslow Jr. TE, Miami (Florida) 7. Atlanta Falcons: Robert Gallery OT, Iowa- The smart Gallery will be provide immediate help to a Falcons offensive line needing plenty. One of the smarter players in college football, Gallery taught a summer course at Iowa last year. He will protect Michael Vick and help T.J. Duckett. He has good size and can dominate on the next level. Other Option- Tommie Harris DT Oklahoma 8. Cleveland Brown: Tommie Harris DT, Oklahoma- The Brown’s have experienced tons of trouble with defensive linemen, but that will all change with Tommie Harris. An undersized competitor, Harris will get constantly double and triple-teamed and he will still make plays. Other Option- Robert Gallery OT, Iowa 9. Jacksonville Jaguars: Roy Williams WR, Texas- The Jaguars need help at wide receiver, as Jimmy Smith is getting up there and they do not have a proven number two receiver. Roy Williams would have been a first round pick if he entered the draft last year, and he will almost definitely become a top ten overall pick this year. Other Option- Sean Taylor S, Miami (Florida) 10. Houston Texans: Randy Starks DT, Maryland- The Texans are looking to become playoff candidates this year and will need to shore up their defensive line to make this possible. Starks is an athletic player who in my opinion is the best defensive tackle in the draft. He can stop the run and blitz. Other Option- Shawn Andrews OT/OG, Arkansas 11. Pittsburgh Steelers: Steven Jackson RB, Oregon State- The powerful Jackson has been compared to Ricky Williams, and deservedly so. He hits the hole hard and he can catch the ball out of the backfield. With Jerome Bettis on the decline and Amos Zereoue has not proven himself worthy of the successor the throne. Other Option- Chris Gamble CB, Ohio State 12. New York Jets: Reggie Williams WR, Washington- The Jets have not had a legitimate big go-to-guy since the departure of Keyshawn Johnson in 1999. Santana Moss is emerging as a threat but his size will hurt him when he will get double-teamed. Williams has great size and speed and he has soft hands. He has dominated great corners (Marcus Trufant is one of the many) and will provide immediate help at wide receiver. Other Option-Chris Gamble CB Ohio State 13. Buffalo Bills: Kellen Winslow Jr. TE, Miami (Florida)- Drew Bledsoe struggled in the absence of Peerless Price and also when Eric Moulds got injured. Josh Reed will not take the double-teams away from Moulds as Price once did. Winslow has NFL genes and he has great size and good hands. Winslow is also a powerful blocker when he wants to be. He will provide immediate help to Bledsoe. Other Option- Mike Clayton WR, LSU 14. Chicago Bears: Vince Wilfork DT, Miami (Florida)- Look for Lovie Smith to get defensive by drafting Wilfork in the first round. Brian Urlacher struggled for most of last season because he did not have Ted Washington eating up blockers for him. That will all change with the addition of Wilfork. Wilfork has great size and he can eat up blockers. Drafting Wilfork will cause a positive domino effect for the Bears. Other Option- Kevin Jones RB, Virginia Tech 15. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Kevin Jones RB, Virginia Tech- You can tell how much depth there is in this year’s draft if Kevin Jones is still available at pick number fifteen. Jones is a mainly outside runner with the speed of a sprinter. He has great upfield vision and will help the Buc’s offense. I do not believe that Michael Pittman or Thomas Jones will ever become feature backs, but I know that Jones will. Other Option- Genos “D.J.” Williams LB, Miami (Florida) 16. San Francisco 49ers: Mike Clayton WR, LSU- Clayton is an incredibly fast player who has willingness to go over the middle. With Terrell Owens on his way out in any second, the 49ers will need to shore up their wide receivers. The lanky Clayton will provide immediate help. Other Option- Rashaun Woods WR, Oklahoma State 17. Cincinnati Bengals: Chris Gamble CB, Ohio State- The athletic Gamble has a bright future in the NFL. He will become a future shutdown cornerback in the NFL. He will also provide immediate help to the Bengal’s weak secondary. He reminds some people of Chris McAllister, who Marvin Lewis coached in Baltimore. Other Option- Dunta Robinson, South Carolina 18. New Orleans Saints: Genos “D.J.” Williams OLB, Miami (Florida)- The Saints will need to help their weak defense in order to be able to compete for the playoffs. Williams is an athletic playmaker who makes plays all over the field. He also has great size for the position. Other Option- Deangelo Hall CB, Virginia Tech 19. Minnesota Vikings: Deangelo Hall CB, Virginia Tech- It will be hard to resist for Mike Tice to draft the incredibly fast Hall. (He allegedly ran a 4.14 forty-yard dash) He is an aggressive playmaker who also returns kicks. He has been compared to Deion Sanders both on and off the field. Other Option- Derrick Strait CB, Oklahoma 20. Miami Dolphins: Philip Rivers QB, North Carolina State- After an impressive performance for Dolphins’s scouts in the workout week and then an impressive performance against several of the best senior prospects in the country in the Senior Bowl, Rivers has made himself a first-rounder in the 2004 NFL Draft. He has strange mechanics but he gets the job done without star tackle Chris Colmer. He is almost a lock to be picked by the Dolphins in the first round. Other Option- Rashaun Woods WR, Oklahoma State 21. New England Patriots (From Baltimore Ravens): Karlos Dansby OLB, Auburn- The Patriots are getting old at linebacker and will need new blood at the position soon. Dansby and Roosevelt Colvin will be unstoppable forces in Romeo Crennel’s 3-4 defense. Other Option- Greg Jones RB, Florida State 22. Dallas Cowboys: Greg Jones RB, Florida State- The powerful Jones raised his stock in the Senior Bowl and will probably sneak into the first round. The Cowboys learned that Troy Hambrick is not the answer at running back but Jones will be. Bill Parcells likes running backs like Jones and Jones will fit well in the Cowboys’s offense. Other Option- Chris Perry RB, Michigan 23. Seattle Seahawks: Will Smith DE, Ohio State- The Seahawks will be pleasantly surprised when they realize that Smith fell back as far as he did. The athletic Smith has helped the players around him and has put up pinball numbers in the process. He will help out Ray Rhodes and the rest of the Seahawks’s defense. Other Option- Marcus Tubbs DT, Texas 24. Denver Broncos: Marcus Tubbs DT, Texas- With Daryl Gardener likely to be on his way out, the Broncos will need to patch up their defensive line. Tubbs is a massive player who had a great season. He takes up blockers and helps the linebackers behind him. Other Option- Derrick Strait CB, Oklahoma 25. Green Bay Packers: DeMarco McNeil DT, Auburn- With Joe Johnson and Gilbert Brown on the decline, McNeil will put some young blood into the defensive tackle position. He takes up blockers and he can make plays. He is great at stopping the run, and teammates Donatarrious Thomas and Karlos Dansby benefited from playing behind him. Other Option- Lee Evans WR Wisconsin 26. St. Louis Rams: Ben Troupe TE, Florida- Mike Martz will not want to pass on Troupe. Troupe has great size and he is a big-play threat. Brandon Manumanela is too big to really become a threat in the passing game but Troupe will become a threat in the Rams’s offense. Keep in mind that Troupe is not the best pick for the Rams, but this is Mike Martz we’re talking about here, and he loves players like Troupe. Other Option- Antwaan Odom DE, Alabama (If Grant Winstron leaves) 27. Tennessee Titans: Nat Dorsey OT, Georgia Tech- The Titans are getting old at offensive line and the athletic Dorsey will provide the help the Titans need. He has great strength and size. He still is a little raw but he can develop into a star. Other Option- Vernon Carey OG, Miami (Florida) 28. Kansas City Chiefs: Derrick Strait CB, Oklahoma- The Chiefs would help their secondary out a ton if they drafted Strait. Strait is an aggressive cornerback who is one of the best cornerbacks in man-to-man coverage. He and Dexter McLeon will shut down opposing wide receivers. Other Option- Darnell Dockett DT, Florida State 29. Philadelphia Eagles: Rashaun Woods WR, Oklahoma State- While Terrell Owens has said he wants to play with Donovan McNabb, it is doubtful that Andy Reid will allow a player like Owens with open arms and make him the Eagles’s go-to-guy from day one. It is possible that he would let Rashaun Woods, however, as Woods uses his size well and he has great hands. He also runs good routes. His stock is on the rise. Other Option- Lee Evans WR, Wisconsin 30. Indianapolis Colts: Dunta Robinson CB, South Carolina- The strong Robinson has good size and an eye for the ball. He hits hard and he can keep up with good receivers. David Macklin may not become a solid starter and Walt Harris is aging. Other Option- Donatarrious Thomas LB, Auburn 31. New England Patriots: Chris Perry RB, Michigan- The quick and strong Perry will help Charlie Weis and his offense. Perry can carry the ball thirty-plus times a game and he can gain yards after the initial contact. Antowain Smith and Kevin Faulk are not cutting it right now for the Patriots. Other Option- Dwan Edwards DT Oregon State 32. Carolina Panthers: Jonathan Vilma OLB, Miami (Florida)- The undersized Vilma is a smart player who can make plays all over the field. He will benefit from playing behind a great defensive line and he will be able to prosper in John Fox’s aggressive defense because he played in one at Miami. Other Option- Vernon Carey OG, Miami
