Smile Why we shouldn't draft Faine or a QB

We definately shouldn't draft Jeff Faine, especially in the 1st round. While I am a big fan of ND football and by no means he is a bad player, but the Raiders need help elsewhere. I think the Barret Robbins was kinda blown out of proportion if you ask me. And for you who had your eyes open the entire superbowl, you saw Adam Treu, who we know is good because he played very well in Robbins' absence last year. Robbins might come back though. I think some people, me included, are a little too pessimistic about him coming back. When Upshaw and the other Raiders said those quotes before they knew of his illness. About the draft, we really need a DE, and a S, and then it's anyone's game. We could draft Teyo Johnson in the 2nd or third, or get McGahee if he's around in the 2nd round (which he probably won't) Adam Treu was good in the Super Bowl, it was just that the other line wasn't so hot that day.

We also shouldn't draft a QB on the first day. If Drew Henson is available in the 5th round, we might want to pick him up. I think we should play Tui a lot in Preseason and make a verdict for next year so we know the situation better. That would make us need a ready QB if Tui doesn't play well, but that will just have to be. All that **** that Tui is Gruden's boy, don't believe it. Nobody knows a lot about him, and we should give him a chance. During blowouts, we should give Tui the ball. He only got into 4 games last year and threw about 4 passes. I like the way that Cally is having Tui always next to him, letting him learn the offense. Let's hope Al takes my advice. What do you guys think?

I don't know if I have mentioned this in previous threads....but the Cardinals "insider" Mike Jurecki, he also is an NFL insider and has plenty of credibility. I listen to him a lot, and when he says something is gonna go down, I would say 8 out of 10 times it materializes. Now he is reporting that the Raiders are gonna package their two first rounders with possibly a player to get in the top 14, and then draft Kyle Boller......he says Al Davis REALLY REALLY likes him. God, I hope this isn't true cause I feel Boller is another Mike Mamulu waiting to happen. Now of course this is speculation and Jurecki is just saying what is being heard behind the scenes....but for real, he has excellent contacts, and the stuff he reports is usually almost dead on.....

That would be just awful when we have other pressing needs. You're giving up two #1's and another player for someone who probably won't see the playing field for at least 2-3 years. That would be a worst case scenario and I'd lose a lot of faith in Al if he made that move.

I'm not saying that I love the move, but what's wrong with Boller?

This team is built to win now. Wasting a #1 on a qb who would be 3rd string material just doesn't make any sense to me. I think Tui deserves a chance to show what he can do and he understands this offense.

First, before things get too crazy, I want to say I love Tui and I want to see him get a chance. Second, I'm not personally interested in drafting a QB, especially in the first round, but.....

If I might play Devils Advocate a bit:

I understand we want to win now, but we are also positioning ourselves for a longer run of competativeness. I don't like the attitude that we should ignore the long term for the short term. Boller is not my choice this draft, but the statement worries me. Let's not ignore the future, after all, that's really what the draft is for. Short term resolutions are for Free Agency.

Is he though? How do you know? Also, is 'fine' good enough? Gannon was better than 'fine' he was the NFL MVP and it wasn't good enough, especially for many Raiders fans. What is it about Tui that makes everyone think he's our savior?

Have you seen Tui on the sidelines? He's always next to Cally, and I think he's ready to step up next year.

WOW, yeah Tui is always next to Cally cheering, that makes a young QB ready to step it up. Hold on, he's actually listening to rich, cally and trestman chatting about what to do on 3rd and 6, thats it Tui soak it all in!
I dont get it, people talk about Tui like he's going to be our savior as soon as he steps in. What makes anybody think he can step it up as soon as he plays?
Im not hating, its just the truth! I guess Montana, Marino, Manning and/or Steve Young never had growing pains and just stepped in and "stepped it up" just like Tui will! C'mon fellas, if this guy wouldve stepped it up and all he wouldve been a higher draft pick and not only that, lets not forget who is the reigning NFL MVP.... and would you want Gannon going down to an injury and having TUi step in for the remainder of the season? How would you feel? Not exactly as confident!

I agree that we should not ignore the future but we don't have to go qb in the first round IMO, especially if we are able to move way up in the draft. Let's resolve the DL and secondary issues first and then fill in the other less pressing needs. QB is not an immediate priority.

My sentiments exactly. I'm not hatin' on Tui, as a matter of fact I've made it point to say that I like Tui, and I don't want to draft a QB in the first round either. The thing is, after Gannon we all have to be prepared for the chance that Tui is a bust. What if the team takes a new direction in philosophy and Tui doesn't fit the new scheme?

All I'm sayin' is, until an apple is an apple it's nothing more than a seed with the potential to become an apple.
