As one GM said to me about the first round, "We must take players who meet at least one of these criteria: Play over 75 percent of the plays, sack the quarterback or handle the ball regularly. Quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers handle the ball and play a lot. Defensive linemen sack the quarterback. And, when it comes to percentage of plays on the field, cornerbacks and offensive linemen are way up there."
FB, TE's, and MLB's are (unless unusually athletic) not worth drafting in the 1st.
