ESPN/PFW Mock - RB & WR in 1st
The latest PFW/ESPN mock has us taking not one, but two injury risk gambles!!!!!!!
McGahee and Washington. Either we will look like the smartest guys in the world or the dumbest......I suppose we could come out in the middle as well. Too much risk for me. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfldraft/story?page=pfwmock |

I'm sorry but taking two offensive players in the first round and neither being an offensive lineman is idiotic for the Raiders to even contemplate. I'm no dumb ass, trust me, I reallize Gannon, Rice, Brown and Garner won't play forever, but we do have Tui, Jolley and Porter already as youngsters who could take over for them - all 2nd round picks. So that leaves a RB and one WR. Getting a #2 WR can be done in the 2nd - 4th rounds or next year when we have two 2nd round picks. A RB typically doesn't need a year to three to get ready. In fact you want to draft a rookie RB when you are ready for someone to become your #1. McGahee is the exception as you draft him hoping he'll be your guy in 2004, but that's because of his injury. If we take an offensive player in the first round their are two choices that make sense:
1. You have to trade up to get an impact, blue-chip player. 2. Draft an offensive lineman as that is the only place on offense that is in tumult and could possibly use the help sooner. Nothing tells me either of the Jerry's are going anywhere in the next two seasons. Brown, well, ok maybe, but that mean we are looking for a #3 or #2 (at best). Why use a first round pick on a guy who won't even sniff the starting lineup in at least 3 seasons? "I stand by my story, Sampson Simpson!" Which means: 21st pick - Jerome McDougle, DE (through trade with Browns) 32nd pick - Kenny Peterson, DT/DE 63rd pick - Willis McGahee, RB 94th pick - (Traded to Browns in McDougle deal) 125th pick - Tyrone Calico, WR 156th pick - Kevin Breedlove, G OK, so McDougle might not be there and Peterson might not fall to us, but I think you get the general idea of what I'm getting at and this isn't out of the realm of possibility.

From CrizpyNutz
21st pick - Jerome McDougle, DE (through trade with Browns) 32nd pick - Kenny Peterson, DT/DE 63rd pick - Willis McGahee, RB 94th pick - (Traded to Browns in McDougle deal) 125th pick - Tyrone Calico, WR 156th pick - Kevin Breedlove, G Damm, Dude if half of this happens... Go Play the Lotto. You would have to change your name to Messiah CrizpyNutz. I hope Mgahee is there @ 63, will be a better pick up there. As for Mcdougle and Peterson, if anybody has read any of my Posts, they will know that i want nothing but defensive linemen out of this years draft, especially with the 1st rounders(or a combo of DE or DT and S). Man, with the 156th pickThe raiders choose.....Crizpy Nutz!

I wouldn't want a WR either, BUT if the deal was set in place to get Andre Johnson...there would be no hesitation on my part to get him......I feel he will be the "Gem" of this draft.

If we could get Callico that late, it would be a miracle but I totally concur that we need at least two defensive players, preferably linemen with our first three picks.

Well, what a difference a week makes.
Newest Developments: - No way McGahee lasts until the second round (at least not 31) - To trade up for McDougle we'd have to get to at least pick #19 - To trade up minimum a 3rd and possibly more to get McDougle - No way Kenny Peterson lasts that long (or I'm a happy, happy man) Guess I don't get drafted, unless it happens but I doubt it.
