Draft Profile - Alonzo Jackson

Alonzo Jackson
DE, Florida St.
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 266 lbs
40-yard: 4.89

Strengths: Is a good athlete with impressive initial quickness. Shows good burst off the ball and has good speed for an edge rusher. Shows the speed to turn the corner. Changes directions well. Can get back inside. Has adequate pop at the point of attack and is stronger than size might indicate. Makes many plays against the run while on the move. Is tough and feisty. Disengages and finds the ball well.

Weaknesses: Lacks ideal base and bulk against the run. Has trouble when reached. Needs to learn more moves to disengage on pass rushes. Must improve at using hands to get off blocks vs. the run. Is inconsistent as an open-field tackler. Struggles when teams run at him.

Bottom line: Jackson capitalized on his senior season, rebounding well from a sprained knee to boost his stock. He will be more of a situational speed rusher than an every-down player in the NFL. He needs to gets stronger, but he is still a good late first-day value.

He's one guy I have on my radar screen. He's very inconsistent. The knock on him is that he posted his good numbers vs weaker opponents. Probably someone you might want to look at in the 4th or 5th round. I'd take Antwan Peak over him

I'd have to agree. I like Peak a lot and I don't know a whole lot about Alonzo Jackson. Inconsistency often is a tell tale sign of a lack of effort. I want a guy who goes on all downs. No Randy Moss type efforts wanted.
