TEE MARTIN vs. RICK "I Suck" MIRER

    From another thread
    -----------------------------------------------------------

Make no mistake. Tee Martin Has an ARM!. That was part of what made him so deadly at Tenn. He could scramble like Culpepper and pull up and throw like Bledsoe! Outrun the rush to the right and launch a 65 yard bomb on the run.

    Mirer I know about

I'm sure many of you remember me saying that I played Highschool football w/ Dennis Erikson's Kid (Ryan), so I spent some time around the Seahawks when Mirer was their Starter.

No joke... I could not think of a QB who has less confidence and has less comand over his team Mirer was a loser. A nice enough guy... But scared of his own shadow. It was obvious that all of the guys thought he was somehwat of a joke.

We would hang around the training room and some of the guys would give us **** and what not. One time Mirer thought he would rip on a buddy of mine who was a TE on our HS team, but Pretty Hefty and slow. Mirer started trying to rip on him by saying
"Hey, Marcel. I saw you trying to run out there... Looking pretty slow!" w/ a awkward little smirk.

My Boy just looked at him and said.
"Yeah, but at least I can throw the ball!"
And the guys on the Seahawks were just rollin!

Mirer looked like the Kid who wets his pants in Gym Class. He was all lookin around, embarassed cause the guys that were supposed to respect him were watching him get dogged on by a 16 year old kid.
his response after the laughter was quieting was "But I can!" in a whiny voice.
    To which Marcel just said:
    "You seen me run?"
    MIRER: "yeah"
MARCEL: "Well I've seen you throw, and no you can't!"

Again, just fits of laughter. Mirer was about a split second from running out the room like a little girl.

Seriously though. Why does anyone care how much PT our 3rd stringer has anyhow? The last two years? yeah I can see the need for an experienced guy. Tui was just a kid still getting his feet wet in a new environment. But now Tui is a 3rd year guy. So he hasn't played any meaningful downs... SO WHAT!!! He know our system as good as anyone on that team (next to Gannon). He is our Vet. You say Mirer has had playing time experience? Again, SO WHAT?!! He has ****TY PT experience. You want to put in a Pile of **** Like Mirer who is in his 11th Horrible NFL season over a 3rd year guy like Tee Martin who still has a chance to capatalize on an impressive showing from College and make a name for himself.

Then your logic is beyond me.

I vote for a Flushy Smiley with MIRER's face on it

I don't know Rick Mirer, except what little i saw of him in two preseason game last year, he moved the ball and at the time looked better than Gannon. Gannon, Marques, and Tee Martin!

He rarely missed a pass, always made the calls... but if the third string uys plays it isnt ust for one game....it will be for a season run. Martin has a lot to learn still.

Should something like that happen, better to let a rebuilding qb in martin gets reps so he can make a move to number two.

Win-win , think Cally prefers vet who grasps the system, but Tee is so good an athlete he merits consideration. Third string upgrade would be nice form playmaking aspect. Mirer got yards in preseason as well, albeit vs. backups he still had good efficiency and controlled the ball/managed time well.

Look at both...Mirer more like Gannon, smart efficient, tee a playmaker with feet like a Tuis. Preseason will be their inly chance to shine. give us something to get fired up about aside from the great ROOK DRAFT CREW!

When I was a sportswriter, for some reason I ended up talking with a Seahawks beat writer for an article in the NFL preseason (must have been something to do with a local guy in the pros), and he said Mirer had come out of Notre Dame the exact same player he was coming out of HS. He had learned zero about being a QB at Notre Dame under Holtz.

So I always had the feeling he was behind the 8-ball from the start of his career.

But really, he's a mediocrity who's on the team because he is a reliable, intelligent veteran. But can he fend off a guy with a lot more talent who doesn't know the system as well and doesn't have the experience? It depends what the team wants: a safety net or a guy with some potential in Martin.

In Mirer's favor is that Tui is an unproven (regular season) commodity, and a coach might feel more comfortable with at least one backup who's a known quantity.

I'm hoping for Martin, but that's nothing against Mirer; I just don't see the need for a guy with such limited upside when the starter is (knock wood) durable and the backup is a kid of serious potential.
