"You can't pay a player enough. Its cruel and its dangerous. Its to be compared to our troops on Iraq." This was a statement made by Walsh yesterday at the Raider vs City of Oakland trial.

I wish our guys would get paid like MLB. At least get real money from those contracts and not just the signing bonus's.
Never going to happen, not with the NFL salary cap. No cap in baseball and always remeber, there is always the danger of getting stuck with bad contracts...Can you imagine giving a guy a huge contract like in MLB and then being stuck with it, not being able to move the player and then if you cant trade him or take back some dead salary, eating the money and thus further complicating issues. Thats why MLB SUCKS and only teams like the YankDeez, Dodgers and Mets will have high payrolls. Plus, Football money is all even, in baseball you have to many Cable contracts and private deals cut by other teams(i.e. Yanks and YES network), the football TV contract is there for the whole league.I wish our guys would get paid like MLB. At least get real money from those contracts and not just the signing bonus's.
Baseball blows, is boring and it Sucks...The only thing that rocks in Baseball is the Union, Its the strongest in the USA!
Don't know which side he's meant to playing for, but I suggest they put on IR asap.
But, are you happy with this CAP CRAP! I can't believe the players are. I mean, take Gannon. All that 'stuff' last year about getting 'more money' when he already had a viable working contract. Ok so he got 'more money'. Enter 2003 and our 'cap troubles' the vets stepped up, ie Rich of course. Now that been 'played around with', WTF do any of these players no what their contracts are and how much money they all are getting?Maybe the NFLPA should talk to the MLB Union.
The NFLPA sucks, plain and simple....as for the MLB players union, they know how to get **** done, for the players....that doesnt mean its right!Maybe the NFLPA should talk to the MLB Union.
Hope he's not in bed with the NFL. But WTF, ya do what ya have to do.
I don't like to talk too much about what NFL players, or any other pro sports athlete, make cuz it will just get me mad.
As far as I'm concerned, every single player in the NFL - including the lowest-paid player - is vastly overpaid. So are the coaches for that matter.
Their offseason 'job' is to keep their bodies in tip-top shape and many of them can't even do that.
They all live in dreamworlds.
If your talking about 'todays players' like from the 90's til the present time, than yes your right on, bro. BUT! If and when you can read Jim Otto's book, sorry, i've forgotten the title, its out two years now. Its about his days as a Raider of course, but also its about the injuries and what he has to live with on a daily basis. That what Walsh was talking about in my opinon. What that has to do with the 'trial' is beyond me.
Seems like that line was taken completely out of context... though I'd pay for a transcript of his testimony. Sure could learn a lot from anything Walsh has to say.
The context of Walsh's statement had to do with the necessity of money for player's signing bonuses to remain competitive in today's Free Agent-based structure. He said something along the lines of how it made him sick to see empty luxury boxes in Oakland and he had very good things to say about Al Davis being one of the people he trusts.
I didn't think Walsh and Davis had much of a relationship but I guess it's more of a mutual respect thing.
And, yes, GoDeep, the salaries I was referring to were today's players not the guys froms the 60s who actually had to work in the offseason. I know that's totally off the subject so we'll save that for another thread.
But what I typed above, I believe, might put some more light on Walsh's Iraq statement.
The day football ever got to be like baseball. That is why football has over taken baseball as AMERICAS' #1 sport. As RaiderInNY says, **** baseball!

Please, do you really want the NFL to be like baseball? You really want ONE team to win every year? You really want to see small market teams lose ALL there players to free agency just when they get good?
Last time I checked the league minimum was $250,000 a year. ARE YOU ****ING KIDDING ME!! You don't think these guys make enough. Oh poor babies have to deal with the salary cap!!
I am much happier with the way the NFL works than the way MLB works.
I would much rather see a team that makes the best deals, and finds the right players at the right price win than see the team with the most money win!!
watching teams work around the cap is part of the fun!
Besides we have Allen. We have the upper hand!
