Raiders to make Super Bowl run in 2003-2004

A source close to Oakland wide receiver Jerry Rice told ESPN.com this week that it is "pretty much a given" the future Hall of Fame member will return in 2003 for a 19th season. And, hey, why not? The guy can catch 75 balls in his sleep, hasn't lost a step in the past year, and is really enjoying the game. His return isn't a done deal yet, but it's close.

Not surprised

...earlier this season Rice told Al Davis he would consider coming back as long as Davis did not break the team up

I believe that will be a tough promise to keep

Im not here to talk smack but I wanted to mention that it would be hard to do what you mentioned. The Raiders are in fact 45 million over. Yes they can cut and renegotiate but it will be reaal tough!

read some of the other threads on the subject of the cap. The Raiders aren't really in bad shape. Russell accounts for 10 mil (he won't be back) and a good portion of the cap money is tied up in unguranteed monies, which makes renogiating a contract a lot easier. We will still have a very competitive team. Plus we'll have 2 1sts and 2 2nds again in the upcoming draft. we should be in fine shape.

It still has to be tough with a 45 million cap.

And yes Russel has 10 mill but you still have to pay the guy something, its not like the 10 mil will fade away I believe.

Don't have to pay him a dime. He's still suspended. And if he is reinstated by the league the Raiders will release him.

Fade awayno disappear yes, we could pay him the league minimum or release him and pay him nothing. The Yets have 2/3 of the cap tied up in bonus money now thats cap problems down the line.

Is that right?

[quote:3cbcbdf1ba]The Raiders are in fact 45 million over.[/quote:3cbcbdf1ba]

Where did you pull that number from? If Al Davis says the Raiders are $20 million over and Raider-Hater columnist says the Raiders are $50 million over, I'm not sure I am going to believe anyone till the NFL releases the cap figures next year.

Strength of scheduel doesnt mean anything.

in 99 people thought they had an easy win over the Rams on thier sched.
This year people thought the Ravens were a 4-12 team.

Every year suprise teams come out.
