Post woodson on woodson

this is from Rod reffering to Charles

Nov. 10, 2003

CB Charles Woodson has received more attention lately for his criticism of head coach Bill Callahan than for his play, which has been a bit inconsistent, but veteran FS Rod Woodson got in his teammate's corner last week in an effort to quiet the critics. "He's one of the only corners I've seen in the league that is fundamentally sound," said Rod Woodson, who also praised Charles' physical play. He also added that he would advise the Raiders to keep Charles, who is a free agent after this season, in Oakland. "He's a guy you know is going to give you his all," Rod Woodson said. "He wants to win. He's a competitor. If I'm in the front office, I'm keeping 'Wood' here." Those close to the team believe Rod Woodson's comments to be sincere because he is not known as a guy who doles out praise just to do it. One area where Charles Woodson could improve is in the film room, where sources say he could benefit from paying more attention to detail.

Thanks, LF! Also does Rod have any advise about CW's FP's and all around dumb ass penality count? Rod Woodson has asked the Raiders to keep CW. WHY? We could move Jesus Lives up and get someone else thats better. See this is what i'm talking about keeping the same damn group for another year we've seen how well thats worked. This team has not changed since 2000. Thats not a good thing. IMO!

I totally agree with my man Rod, this is coming from a guy who has been an All-Pro at the corner and safety position so he obviously knows his ****, CWOOD get your ass in the film room so you can get even better, and when this happens someones in trouble. I also think that alot of the penalties come from CWOOD playing so physical, and the refs making bad calls, mostly on balls that arent even catchable. And the number one reason is the NFL is built for these offensive players.

I never questioned his talent. His mouth on the other hand could use some tightening. All in all I hope he stay's along with Callhan. Can't we all just get along?

Woodson has gone to 4 straight Pro Bowls and it isnt because he takes plays off or dosent know his stuff.

Im with RWood on this one, CWood is much too valuable an asset to let him go.

I don't see Charles has an asset nor i'm i gonna make any type of excues for his play, those dumb as P's or his mouthing off about a problem that should have stayed IN HOUSE. MVP's and Pro Bowl apperances don't cut it with me. That Pro Bowl game is the biggest joke in sports. All his pro bowl trips didn't Lawyer Malloy in New England. Why even Jon Gruden said Charles is overrated. Can't we all just get along, i guess NOT! Bye, Bye!

4 straight Pro Bowls ! Not in the last 3 years and I'm including this one cause he's not going. I have to agree with Bleed on this one. Both Woodson's have lost a step. All the Vets on this team want all the Vets to stay. In the words of Dr. Phil. How's that working for you ? It's not. Both Woodsons need to go. Are you not tired of watching the same old **** every Sunday with bad results. I am. Put the draft choices in the damn game let them learn.

Woodson was not a pro bowler in 2002, that was his first non pro bowl year. I'm pretty sure he has 4 pro bowls including his rookie season 98, 99, 00, 01.

My Man CWood. The definition of all pro. Funny thing is, hes on pace for a career year in interceptions this year (5).

The CWood haters try and find fault with his game but there really arent any.

Defenses have changed

The great turn-out-the-lights, one-on-one cover cornerbacks don't exist anymore. Deion Sanders, Darrell Green, Lester Hayes, Aeneas Williams, Mike Haynes, Albert Lewis, guys who'd spend so many afternoons locked in man-coverage, shutting down the enemy's best receiver, have been replaced by system cornerbacks. Be smart, don't screw up your zone assignments and for God's sake, don't miss the tackle -- that's the credo of today.
...

So what we have now are double zones; the Cover Two, in which a corner and safety play the short and deep areas, respectively; the banjo coverage scheme, in which the corner and safety bracket a receiver, each taking a side; the zone blitz, which drops a lineman into the short zone, relieving a corner of that responsibility; and all manner of variations and switches off these basic coverage schemes. And what all this has done is erode the skills of the great one-on-one cover guys. Sure, there are corners who will show flashes on a given afternoon, but then next week they could give up two touchdowns.
...

It was the start of a process of restricting the defense and helping the offense that is still going on, as the pass interference rules get pickier and pickier.

"They're giving the cover corners an even smaller window than they had before," says Scott Pioli, the Patriots' director of player personnel. "Now the guys who play hard at the corner get flagged all the time. What players like Hayes and Lewis did so well, steering a receiver with their body, is one of the arts that is now lost. The great cover corner is absolutely rare and special."
