Week 10 Review: Seat gets hotter for troubled coaches
Nov. 10, 2003
By Pete Prisco SportsLine.com Senior Writer Tell Pete your opinion! Tom Coughlin, Nick Saban, Dennis Green and the many other coaches who might be on the short lists for NFL teams looking for coaches next January had big days Sunday without even coaching. Why? Many of the coaches on the proverbial hot seat did not. More

All of these coaches should be available at seasons end.
Tom Coughlin, Nick Saban, Dennis Green Giants coach Jim Fassel, Dolphins coach Dave Wannstedt, Bills coach Gregg Williams, Raiders coach Bill Callahan and Bears coach Dick Jauron.

I wouldn't want any of those as my head coach. All retreads who wore out there welcome with thier previous teams. Now you want to dump them on the Raiders. Wanstant? He's been a head coach with two teams now and they all underachieve. Coughlin? An old stick in the mud that runs training camp like boot camp most players end up dispicing him and if your not winning his act gets old like him. You really don't know how good we have it. I think Callahan is a good coach maybe not great yet but I think he can and will be.Of all those coaches you mentioned how many have gone to the Superbowl? At least I know Callahan has.

Looks like our Bill C is the leading vote getter for the coach who should be fired first. I still say leave him in the rest of the season and spend the time and money on the right guy this time.

Actually, I need to say that I think hiring Calli when it was done, was the right move. He was the best suited to continue to execute the Jon Gruden team/system that was in place. Now, that system and everything associated to it must go....

Gruden Callahn both running some sort of "West Coast Offence" Most teams in the NFL running some version of it. Anyone you bring in would do the same. Callahan is not getting canned during a season. And I don't think he's even getting fired after the season. If the Raiders are in the same funk next year then I can see Al giving him his walking papers. But I think he'll turn it around. My guess is he'll rattle off enough wins this year to save his job.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Dan Reeves coming to the Raiders. He got his 200th win last Sunday and is a proven winner. How old is he, 100 years old? I wonder if Reeves being an ex-Bronco coach would make him that much more desireable to Big Al.
