When it rains it pours...
Raider Star CB Likely Out For 2004
March 31, 2003

Sportsline.com learned late Monday night that Raiders All-Pro Cornerback Charles Woodson blew out his left knee in a non-contact off season conditioning drill at the Raiders team complex in Alameda, CA. The news comes at the heals of what already has been a strange 2003 campaign for the 5 time Pro Bowl Cornerback.
Battling a broken shoulder and a cracked bone in his leg this past season, Woodson was looking forward to an injury free 2004 campaign. A source close to the situation has informed Sportsline.com that Woodson is believed to have suffered a full tear to the anterior cruciate ligament in the knee as well as possible damage to the medial and posterior cruciate ligaments. While the typical rehabilitation process lasts over 12 months, Raider officials expect to learn more details following an MRI that is scheduled to take place on Tuesday at the University of San Francisco Medical Center.
As is customary with the Raiders these days, the team has closed its doors to the media and coach Bill Callahan declined to comment on the situation. The irony of injury stems from the fact that this offseason would have marked the first time Woodson has participated in any kind of an offseason conditioning program since entering the league out of Michigan. The timing couldn't be any worse for either Woodson or the Raiders considering Woodson's contract is up with the Raiders at the end of 2004, and that the Raiders run at another Super Bowl will also be over then as well.

It's times like this I wish they would have kept James. James started out slow, got burned a few times and then became their best DB despite injury. Guess you don't know what you got till it's gone. Buchanon scares the hell out of me, yea he's great when the ball was in his hands and not so great getting tourched and manhandled by recievers. No sense in looking at the past, only to the future and this kick ass Raiders team. So, do they draft another DB, look to FA after the draft ? I hope this D Russell cap problem doesn't become our achilles heal. Boy do I feel really stupid now, it didn't even occur to me what the date was, have to admit that was a good one. I usally check things out before I respond, now I'm awake and alert for the rest of the day.

Damn you, I'm a sucker. I bought in hook, line and sinker.
You know what though. You did get me thinking. What was your first reaction when reading SoCal's evil post? Mine was,
'That figures.'
If that response doesn't signify what a critical year CWood is in I don't know what does. Why hasn't the team signed him to an extension? Possibly because we are all waiting to hear news like this about him?

SoCal - I believe in giving credit where credit is due. So, I have to admit, I stole your theme and sent the following to a couple of people in my office who are huge Cowboy (I know - why?) fans. I then had the pleasure of breaking up the Cowboy "love in" - I asked them if they knew today's date - you should have seen the looks on their collective pathetic faces!!!! thanks alot.

Aikman To Return In 2003
March 31, 2003

Sportsline.com learned late Monday night that former Cowboy quarterback, Troy Aikman, has agreed in principal to a two-year contract that will return him to the Dallas Cowboys beginning in 2003. Aikman has reportedly been working out regularly at the Cowboy's training facility and participating in team meetings with the coaching staff.
Aikman originally retired following the 2000 season due to suffering reoccurring concussions and battling post concussion syndrome. His return is pending medical clearance.
Aikman has cited his desire to return to competition and especially the hiring of Bill Parcells as the overriding factors in his decision. It is expected Aikman will reassume his starting role and last years starter, Chad Hutchinson, will be his primary backup.
He was originally drafted #1 overall by the Cowboys in the 1989 draft out of UCLA. He was the Cowboy starter from 1989-2000 and is the holder of numerous Cowboy passing records. The 6-time Pro Bowl quarterback directed the Cowboys to three Super Bowl victories, garnering the MVP for Super Bowl XXVII.
Aikman had been rumored to be interested in forming a partnership with Roger Staubach and Dallas businessman Bill Saunders, to develop a NASCAR team that will compete in the Winston Cup series. As the team has been unable to secure a major sponsor, Aikman has turned his attention back to football.
Both owner Jerry Jones and head coach Bill Parcells are said to be elated with Aikman's decision.
Terms of the contract were not announced.
