Oh man, we are so totally screwed! :? Well, I sure hope we win the big one this year. Won't hurt as much seeing the team dismantled next year.

If Oakland wins the SB, which Raiders will retire?

Here are the facts about 2003 and the Raiders salary structure. They are on the books for $19 million of signing-bonus proration. There are five teams with more. They have $86 million tied up in unguaranteed salaries, which is $28 million more than any other team but that's a good thing because they really can fix that in a few phone calls. DT Darrell Russell is in the books for $10 million in salary, but he'll never see it even if he does come back. Without mentioning any other names, I counted $17 million tied up in four players the Raiders don't need in 2003. So don't buy it when you hear the Raiders are bound for 'cap prison.' It's not true.

Rhode...

Would you mind e-mailing me the figures you have on the Raiders next year (my email is theraider@wildmail.com).

For what its worth I am in a software engineering class and my group might be building a little "salary cap calculator" that will take in a file of players salaries, signing bonuses, etc... and output the salary cap hit for each player and total for the team. Your numbers on the Raiders would be a great test file to run.

The Ravens were about 30 million over the cap and theyhad to dismantle their whole team. Even if the 45 million isn't as bad as it looks, it's still pretty bad.

Raider brass will not make the same mistakes Modell made

I'm not sure the Ravens are a great blueprint considering they turned around and gave all their money to one player, Ray Lewis. I don't see the Raiders re-enacting that mistake.
