Most Memorable Playoff moment
Ok folks,
Do you have a favorite memorable playoff moment in Raider football? What play or set of plays or just plain moment, thrill or pain do you recall the best.
Granted, there have not been a lot of them in the past 20 years and certainly no super bowl appearances. However, I think this year will be the one we have been waiting for in a long time and to cap this one off, lets share some of those thrilling moments.
For those whose memories may need a jog;
Great moments:
Sea of hands - 74 playoff game against the Dolphins won in the last seconds by Stabler. Wow, what a game that was and that is my personal favorite. Coincidently, the next day, my wife gave birth to my first son and I spent the morning reading the paper which was a Bay Area paper and full of articles (I was stationed at Ford Ord in Monterrey, Ca).
Ghost to the post - 77 playoff game that went 6 quarters! Had the Raiders not lost to the Broncos the following week for the AFC Championship, this might have been remembered as one of the best games of all time. It was. The Raiders and Colts battled for 6 quarters which was the second longest game ever played. It ended in the second overtime with Stabler hitting Casper for a 38 - 31 win. Late in the 4th quarter with time running out, it was Stabler''s long ball to Casper who made an over the shoulder catch that put them in position for the tie. Magnificent and on the road in old War Memorial Staidum which was nothing but dirt (frozen).
Super Bowl XI - Any play. What a win over the Vikes! That 76 game was not just for the season, it was for the teams that lost from 68-75.
Nightmare moments:
Too many to think about and I'm almost out of Zantac. How about last year's Snow job, ahhhhhhhhhhh! And, just as agonizing, Franco Harris and the immaculate deception.
You know what has been reall cool has been Madden on Monday night when he talked about the game with Michaels. He said, ya know what burns me about that game is after he crossed the goal line, the referees didn't call anything. They didn't know what to call. They can't do that, then and now. The play happens, you make the call. Only this time, they make no call and the head referee gets on the phone. Who the heck is he talking to and what are they saying? There is no instant replay, you can't look at it again! About 10 minutes later (it felt like days) they make the call. Excuse me, I think I might have to throw up.

I sent 2002 the story, hopefully he'll post it on the main page, I wrote it after last years exit from the playoffs. I thought it was pretty good, but I'm biased

Black Sunday: That year the Raiders where on fire when they played Washington and lost mid season 37-35. We should have beaten Washington that game but came up short. Then both teams walked through the playoffs we whipped pitt 38-10 and then the Hawks 39-14. Everyone seemed to be saying Washington would win. Thiesmann promised to bomb us from the air.
The Raiders seemed to control the game from the unset building a 21-9 hafe time lead. The Game was far from over because Thiesmann and Washington could score quickly. But Plunckett lead the Raiders down field and a score 28-9. Then after the Redskins turned it over on downs the play that stands out is Marcus Allens 74yd TD run it was simply awesome. The Dagger in the Skins back. Plunkett, Christenson, Branch, Dalby, Lawrance, Hendricks, Guy, Marcus, Hanes, and Hayes. What AL said was the Greatest team of all time.
You know it is almost like watching history over. Look at the players on this team and maybe next year. Gannon, Rice, Brown, Kennedy, Woodson and Woodson, Romo, Garner, Parnella, Adams, Robbins, and the youngsters, Porter, Jolly, Harris, Buchannon, Walker, Grant.. And we wll do next year what that great team failed to do is repeat.

I saw a ghost
Funny that this thread should pop up today of all days. Last night I woke up around midnight, (4am EST) and couldn't get back to sleep so I flipped on the TV. ESPN2 was showing a recap of "The ghost to the post". I hadn't planned on staying up so late, but I'll be damned if I could shut it off without seeing it through to the end.
That was an inspired Raider team if ever there was one. Unlike recent Raider teams, they seemed to thrive on coming from behind rather than getting out to an early lead and continuing to pull away.
By the way, Jack Tatum is [u:80da2b188f]still[/u:80da2b188f] a scary SOB, even with grey hair, even when he smiles. ESPECIALLY when he smiles. He must have struck pure fear in the hearts of any receiver unfortunate enough to get their number called to go against him.
And I learned something else. Who noticed that Casper was continually open on that particular play against indy's defensive scheme? None other than Tom Flores. Good job, Tom.

great topic Pietro! I still can't get that fat ass Siragusa sack when he flopped on Gannon back in 2000 and seperated his shoulder. Fat ****, fat bastard! Also the fact that Gruden was so freaking hard headed trying to run the ball, instead of opening up the playbook a bit.

I remember 2 great playoff moments...
Patriots 16 - Raiders 13
Ravens 16 - Raiders 3
Funny how 2 of the worst NFL Champions both lost to the Raiders on route to the Super Bowl... Amazing.

Don't you mean "funny how 2 of the worst NFL champions both beat the Raiders on the way to the Super Bowl?"
Yeah, we lost those games, sure. That's over with, but we were there, weren't we?
You haven't had a good playoff memory since Joe ****ing Namath, and you sure as hell aren't going to have any good memories after next Sunday, either.

Yeah, you're right, calling the Jets a fluke would be an insult to flukes worldwide.
You have a really good QB, I'll give you that, but he's no MVP, now is he?
Oh, is he going to shred our depleted secondary?
We didn't see it last time on MNF did we? Even with both of our starting corners hurt that night?
Oh and don't hate on Timmy and the whole stoppage of play thing that night. It was a home game and the guy got his 1000th reception, they would have done the same thing in your house, but oh I forgot, there are no Jet players that are even years and years and years away from doing anything remotely deserving of such an honor, sorry.
Well, keep reading all the papers and believing all the hype about your squad, everyone knows the media just loves to suck New York dick and gush about how great the J-E-T-S jets jets jets are and how they're the "new Patriots". Wow, you're the new Patriots, that must feel great.
Too bad it won't be snowing on Sunday and Walt Coleman won't be reffing.
We sure as hell aint the Colts, either.

I actually attended this game. I'm a native of the Wash DC suburbs in Northern Virginia. The season prior to that game, as an impressionable 13 year old, I decided to forgo the Redskins and pick a new team as my favorite. Since the Raiders had just won the Super Bowl (against the Vikings), I decided to go with them. The following season, the Raiders came to Baltimore (about an hour away) to play the Colts in the Divisional Playoff Game. I persuaded my father to take me to the game. (Remarkably, tickets were easy to get.)
I'll never forget seeing the Raider greats such as Stabler, Casper, and Biletnikoff. 25 years later, the Raiders are still my team.
I'm thrilled to be heading to Oakland this week to attend the game against the Jets, which will be my first trip to Oakland. GO RAIDERS!

I'm sick and tired of this "Jets are the New Patriots" crap myself... Chad is much better than Brady, we have a star running back, AND quick recievers... ALSO unlike the 2001 Pats win, we'll BLOW u guys out... hehe
